Locking Info

We are having application running on SQL Server 6.5. Now the
management decided to upgrade that application to SQL server 2000
becasue of the Locking problems in SQL Server 6.5 . i Upgrade that on
my test server through the upgrade wizard available in SQL Server 2000
..

After upgrading, i check that, the database is in compatiblity mode of
6.5. Now, at this point, How the locking will be done on this
server???. Will the compatiblity level of 6.5 allows the row level
locking???

Also what are the other complications that can have while the database
is on compatiblity mode of 6.5.

Pls suggest.
