SQL Server too slow

When I query or browse databases or tables in SQL Server 2000 it works
extremely slow. It started working like this from one day to another.

I tried reinstalling but it stayed the same.

Now I'm installing Service Pack 3, it's curious that executing
replsys.sql, replcom.sql and repltran.sql scripts in the installation
is extremely slow too.

Did anyone experienced this or have any idea?

Thanks in advance.

What do you consider "extremely slow"

I tried reinstalling but it stayed the same.

Again, what do you consider slow?

I just did a SP3a upgrade last night and some of the replication scripts
took several minutes to run.

On the other hand, this server normally processes 10s of millions of queries
a day in subsecond speed.

So, some things are just plain slow.

Did anyone experienced this or have any idea?
No, since you really haven't provided enough detail.

Thanks in advance.

As Greg said, you have provided far too little information for any accurate
advice. But two things to check for:

o Make sure you have ODBC tracing off.
o Make sure that no database is set to autoclose.

Tracing was ON, and that was causing the big delay!!
Thank you very Erland!

For a single database you can do:

exec sp_dboption db, 'autoclose'

To check all databases use:

exec sp_helpdb

But since the autoclose information is hidden in the middle, this may
be simpler:

select name from master..sysdatabases
where databasepropertyex(name, 'IsAutoClose') = 1

You can also view it in Enterprise Manager, but it is left as an exercise
to the reader to find out how.
