Using the Transact-SQL Debugger

I'm using the Transact-SQL Debugger for the first time here.

I go to Object Browser, find my stored procedure, right click and
choose "Debug".

The "Debug Procedure" window comes up, and I click on the Execute
button.

The Debug environment comes up and automatically executes my
procedure. It doesn't allow me to single step through the code.

What am I missing here?

All of the "step" buttons, "restart", and "stop debugging" buttons
are dimmed out.

Thanks.

The most likely reason is that the SQL Server is running under the
local system account. It should be running on a domain account. On
the SQL Server machine, right click My Computer, choose Manager.
Find Services, and the find the MSSQL Server services. (There is one
per instance.) Right-click the service, select Properites and on the
second tab is log on.

You may also have problems if SQL Server is running SP3, but your
Query Analyzer is SP2.

Hi,

i have the same problem and when i check the versions
i find version 8.00.760 for the server and 8.00.194 in
the info of the query analyzer.
Server is running with admin account, so this can't be
the reason, i think, but i have a mixed environment - i
have installed msde2000 but tools from sql server from
my sql server developer cd.
Maybe debugging with msde is not possible or when
updating with the desktop servicepack query analyzer
ist not included - can one of this be the problem?

bye,
Helmut

Yes, there were changes in SP3 (which is 760), which is said to prevent
debugging on SP3 servers. (But actually, I believe I kept on running SP2
on my old machine at work, and was still able to debug on our development
server. I might be wrong, though.)
