SQL Server 2000 and Transaction Log Error

Hi All:

I am getting an error when trying to open a recordset in SQL Server 2000.
The error states that the transaction log is full. Is there any way I can
clear out or empty the transaction log, or get rid of it alltogether as it
is not really needed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Ryan

First you can run

backup log dbname with truncate_only

then you can run

DBCC SHRINKFILE (logfilename, 5) (shrinks log file to 5mb)

then change the recovery mode to simple

alter database dbname set recovery simple
