I was experiencing odd behaviour from SQL Server within Vis Studio this
morning and had to uninstall SQL. Trouble is I can't seem to get it set
up the way it was before. I installed the developer edition, client and
server tools. Can't recall if I did this last time, but now I get the
error:
"A connection could not be established on paul\sqlservdeveloper. Reason
SQL server does not exist or access denied . ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server
registration properties".
I am running on Win XP Pro and am new to SQL so pls explain in laymans
terms.
Without knowing about the configuration on your machine, I will have
to do some guesswork.
First: you did check that your SQL Server is running, did you? Use
the SQL Server Manager for this. You may want to set SQL Server to
autostart.
Another possibility is that you have no communicaiton protocol for client
and server. You can check this in the Client Network Utility and the Server
Network Utility.
If all is on the same machine, Shared Memory should always work. This
is a checkbox in the lower left of the Client Network Utility, and not
among the other protocols. It is not visible in the Server Network
Utility.
