Awarded by microsoft to all knowing geeks (in a good way :p) for being
wonderful. By invitation only I believe.

It stands for most valuable professional. It is a title given out by
Microsoft to individuals who they see as making outstanding
contributions to the SQL Server online community.

That is helping people with problems on news groups like this one.
They may also maintain or contribute to a SQL Server web site.

There is no exam for an MVP, you get awarded it by Microsoft.

MVP is not speciffic to SQL Server, there are MVP's who support the
whole range of Microsoft products.
