SQL server indexes through access (vba)

zachster17
Hello all,

I'm converting a database that has the application and database components in an MS Access database. I'm moving the actual database component to SQL Server but am programming it/the interface through VBA in access.

Do you not have to do the whole .index and .seek and .nomatch for ADO (sql server) recordsets like you did for DAO? What's the point of making an index in SQL server then? In order to 'search' do you just do a select clause and check to see if there are any records or not?

Thanks,

Zach

You can still use DAO in MS access on the links to the SQL tables and views.
Suggest you do move over to ADO though.

An index in SQL server makes select statements run faster when the where clause is using fields that are indexed. This is because the index enables the db engine to locate and retrieve your requested records without having to check every record in the recordset.
