Dynamic column names

I want to have a column name that is actually a field value.

I know this doesn't work, but is there something like this that would ?

SELECT a.week, max(a.amount) as a.username
FROM MyTable a

I'm not 100% sure I see what you mean. If you want to pull a field name to be selected from a column, there's only one way I know of: pull the name of the column into a (string) variable, then put together a select statement into a string, then EXEC the string. An example:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. declare FieldName varchar(25)
  2. declare sqlstatement varchar(255)
  3. ...
  4. select FieldName=myColumn from mytable where myid=111
  5. ...
  6. set @sqlstatement='SELECT '
  7. set @sqlstatement=@sqlstatement+FieldName
  8. set @sqlstatement=' FROM myOtherTable'
  9. exec(@sqlstatement)
  10. ...
