Database Restore Checklist and sql2005 running on virtual machines

Hi guys,

I want to know if there is any checklist available that one can follow before moving the databases from one server to another one.

I am a newbie in SQL stuff and facing the following problems:

I have SQL2005 running on a virtual machine, and have restored some databases which I moved from SQL2000. As a standard issue, I can't access my databases using my conventiional user logins. Have tried a lot of things as available on the internet, but nothing worked. I am still unable to connect to my database.

I need to know, first, how to check if I have the right permissions and roles set in my SQL 2005 after restoring the DBs. 2nd how can I test if my logins are working fine in the absence of any other microsoft application on my virtual machine. I have Windows Server 2003 environment in the virtual.

thankx
