MSDE Database

How can i see the content (tables) of a mdf database file?

When i open Microsoft Sql Server Management Studio Express i can not see the database i want (c:\inetpub\wwwroot\app_data\aspnetdb.mdf in this case).

This tool (MS SQL Server Management Studio) is not the right tool for opening these files? Or i have to do something to add this particular file to the session?

When i try to open this file with it i receive the message: "There is no editor available for 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\app_data\aspnetdb.mdf '. Make sure the application for the file type ('.MDF') is instaled."

Thank you,
Joaquim

Hi JoaquimC,

To see the content of .mdf file, you will need to do an attach within SQL Server Management Studio.

Open your database, right click on databases and select attach from the menu - you will need to browse to the .mdf file location. If all is well with the database you will then be able to expand it and see the tables etc held within.
