Updating a column one row at a time

Hello,

In SQL 2005, Can someone demostrate with an example of how to update a column in the table with values coming from another column in another table ? I was thinking of a cursor but have been suggested not to use it because of performance reasons. But I have only 2229 rows to update.. any ideas would be much appreciated

For two tables linked by tableid you would do the following:

UPDATE t1
SET t1.field1 = t2.field2
FROM table1 t1 INNER JOIN table t2
ON t1.tableid = t2.tableid
