sql query

Ia m trying to convert a column that has a 'datetime' value stored in it into a varchar so I can set conditions in my sql statement.

Here is the code I want to use...

WHERE (contact_event.event_date >= '01/01/2007' and contact_event.event_date < '01/04/2007'

When I use that code, I get this message...

The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
