Linked Server, ODBC, OPENQUERY, Collation and Network Traffic

P: 1
Using SQL Server 2005 Express on 23K, I am setting up a linked server using MSDASQL over ODBC (C/ODBC) to another server on out internal network.
Linked server is a MBS Navision 3.7, Danish.

When running a query like this:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. SELECT * from OPENQUERY(NAVISION,'SELECT * FROM _someproductstable_ WHERE Number = ''111-A'' ')
..I get a (correct) response time of 4+ seconds, whereas running the same query from msquery returns same resulting record in milliseconds.

My first guess is that the issue lies with the collation setup of the linked server (NAVISION). Setting the Collation Compatible option to True should cause the SQL Server to pass on the WHERE-clause to the linked server, however, my attempts experimenting did not, so far, render fruitful.
As a result, the linked server sends approximately 9 MB of data, possibly all records rather than only the resulting one. Network traffic is only a few kB when using msquery.

Any ideas?
