SQL database auto grow

Hello,

I have a 100gb database set to autogrow in 10% increments. Can anyone tell me at what point the autogrow process is kicked off? It doesn't wait until the db is actually out of space, does it?

As far as I know, it happens automatically as your tables and temdb and transaction log grow. If database feels that it needs more space - it takes it if necessary but not when it is out of space totally there is certain percentage of free space that should be maintained for database to work properly and it is all automatic no worries. But on the other hand if database feels comfortable there is no reason to grow and take up unnecessary space.
