Problems loading SQL server 2000

Hi

I'm having problems loading a new instance of SQL 2000 Developer edition as
a default instance onto my laptop. Everytime I try to do so it I get a
message at the end of the installation saying the 'Server failed to
initialize' and refer to the set up log. When I look at the error log it
says
"[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] data source not found and no default
driver specified".

Can anyone help me understand this please

Setup problems are always difficult, not the least without knowledge about
the machine.

Not that I really have any ideas, but maybe you could give some more
information:

1) What operating system?
2) Do have any previous instances of SQL Server on the machine? If so,
which editions and versions?
3) What is the name of the computer?
4) Have you renamed the machine during its lifetime?

Maybe you could attach the log file?
