Creating files from within SQL Server generally is not a best practice.
Instead, you may create and populate a log table, something like this:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. create table tbl_log (log_date datetime default (getdate()), table_name sysname, record_count int)
  2.
  3. create table working_table (id int identity (1,1), val int default (0))
  4. go
  5. create trigger trg_working_table_update
  6.     on working_table
  7. after update
  8. as
  9.     insert tbl_log (table_name, record_count) values ('working_table', @@rowcount)
  10. go
  11.
  12. insert working_table default values
  13. insert working_table default values
  14. insert working_table default values
  15. insert working_table default values
  16.
  17. update working_table
  18. set val = id
  19. where id<4
  20.
  21. select * from tbl_log
