How to purge errorlog?

On friday i noticed one of the servers was down to 22gb, after looking at the server one of the database log files (which has never been purged/shrunk in over 2 years) was sitting at 55gb. I shrunk it away down and set the log file never to go above 100mb (database is the insight database from hp , i thought stupidly that it wouldnt hit the 100mb and if it did it would autopurge... When i got in today, disk space was down and it was due toa 44gb error log. Have increased the log file size to 10Gb to stop the error log increasing.

Is there any way of purging or deleting the error log?

Is it a simple case of stopping the sql service, deleting the log file and then recreating it as zero bytes and then starting the sql service ?
