hi,
I am getting the following error while trying to add a remote server.

The user does not have permission to perform this action.

The command i used is:
exec sp_addlinkedserver 'remote_server_name'

What is the solution?

Books Onlines says about permissions for sp_addlinkedsever:

Execute permissions default to members of the sysadmin and setupadmin
fixed server roles.
