Suspect msdb database

My msdb database is marked as suspect. This means that my maintenance plan
doesn't work. I'm a novice when it comes to sql server so now I'm wondering
if anyone could give a hint on how to fix the suspect msdb database? Does
this database contain any vital information? What could be the reason that
this database become suspect?

Appreciate any suggestions in this matter.
Thanks!

If you look up "suspect" in the Index of Books Online, you will find a
troubleshooting article that says that the cause is lack of disk space.
However, I believe that there are possible reasons as well - read:
corruption.

This topic also discusses you can address the problem, if the issue is
indeed lack of diskspace.

If the problem is corruption, restoring a backup may be a safer way to go.

The msdb database is the database that holds information about SQL Server
Agent jobs (of which the maintenance plan is one). It also have tables for
backup history of databases. It's definitely a database that you should
back up regularly. It's usually not that big, so it sounds a little funny
that you would run of disk space because of it.
