How to convert binary trace data

There must be a way to convert the binarydata field in the SQL trace output
to text data when the event type is a show plan. SQL Profiler does it but
how can it be done from an imported table?

What if you open the table in SQL Profiler?

That may work as a manual solution to find and view a few records. But I'm
looking for a way to automatically capture the show plan information.

Surprising I haven't been able to find anything on it in BOL or the Net.

OK. I have directed a question to Microsoft, so see if I can find out
anything.

I looked at the description in Books Online, and found that it was
completely wrong. What is in BinaryData, it has in TextData.

Thanks Erland. I find it interersting that the execution plan is stored in
TextData but the show plan is stored in BinaryData.

Here are some good news to you. One of my MVP colleagues referred to
Umachandar Jaychandran's web site. UC is a former SQL MVP, and is now
with the SQL Server Engine team. This link should take you a long way:
