Strange Backup Problem!

Hello Faculties,
Currently i'm working on a local machine that houses SQL Server
databases. All the development work is done on this local machine. The
data is finally imported to a remote server where a demo is given to the
clients.

As a result, the remote database has become full of databases many of
which are not needed at the moment.

I plan to remove all unwanted databases on the remote server only
after taking backups. But there's very little space on the remote server
and as a result i wont be able to use BACKUP commands to create backup
copies.

I also wont be able to import these databases from the remote server
to the local server.

I am planning to copy the .mdf and .ldf files from remote server to
local server. Will that be OK?

Yes. First detach them from the remote server before you copy.
