SQL Server Distribution Server Licensing

I have two production SQL Servers and a separate server as a
distributor (merge replication). The two production servers are
licensed by device cals. Does the distribution server require the same
cal licenses as the production ones or can I save on cals by assuming
that only the agents will connect to this server?

The MSSQL licensing FAQ is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/faq.asp#B

But if that doesn't answer your question, you should probably ask Microsoft
directly - people may have different understandings of what licences allow
or not, so it's best to get a definite answer.
