"Unable to validate product key"

I also had this problem. I called MS tech support and they had an internal
KB
article that solved it.

The jist of the problem is that the setup program is having trouble
loading
pidgen.dll

Why its having trouble is unknown.

The solution is...

Create the following regkey.

HKLM\System\CCS\Control\Session Manager\SafeDLLSearchMode with a DWORD
value
of 0

This appears to change the order of locations where which the OS looks for
the DLL.

Voila.

Rerun setup and its fixed

Hi everyone,

I'm having the same problem, and the above solution did not work.

I have SQL Server 2000 Enterprise, and I'm trying to install it on a Windows
Server 2003 Standard OS.

Since the server is remote, I zipped up the disk files and FTP'd them up.

I get the "unable to validate key error". Can anyone suggest a few more
things to try (short of calling MS)?

Thanks!
