SQL Server: Backup/Restore

P: n/a
I have SQL Server desktop installed on my laptop. I have a database on
these that i created. but when i try to back it up to disk, i have no
choices available to select either disk or tape. i still try to click
on the 'add' button to select a file and it fails.

i checked the settings and have the sys admin permission level as it's a
standalone on my laptop. any suggestions???

It would be useful to know which version of MSSQL you have, and also what
you mean by "fails" - do you get an error message?

To make sure there's no fundamental problem, you can try backing up directly
from Query Analyzer:

backup database MyDB to disk = 'c:\backups\MyDB.bak'

If this isn't helpful, perhaps you can post some more information,
especially any error messages you receive.
