move a database

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to move the data directory of SQLServer
from the application server where SQL runs to another system (the file and
print server) in the network?

regards Joop

Hi

You can not use a mapped network drive for your data directly, if that is
what you are implying. If you are wanting to re-install SQL Server on a
different server then you can follow

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q314546
http://support.microsoft.com/default...en-us%3b224071

It is best to have a dedicated server for SQL Server, if you file and print
server is doing alot of disk or network I/O then it is not a good candidate
for the new host.
