SQL MSDE installation problem

6 New Member
Hi
I'm trying to install MSDE 2000 on my WIN XP machine using the setup.exe, but it always gives me error saying "set strong sa password" after the message " Please Wait while windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine"

I also tried installing it by command line command below, it shows that its configuring and installing software, but disappears in the middle. I see the SqlServer agent installed and also folders inside C:\Program Files\Microsoft Sql Server folder, but SQL is still not listed in the installed programs

msiexec /i sql2000.msi /log exception.log instancename="i malla
" securitymode=sq l sapwd="sapasswo rd"

Your help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Strong password means alphanumeric it should contain characters and numbers.

I have a copy of MS Visual Studio 2002 Professional ACADEMIC which I understand is the same as the regular Professional version with the addition of a student CDROM. The installation program on the first CDROM only copies the MSDE to the harddrive and the copied setup file has to then be manually executed to complete the installation. Are the SQL tools such the SQL Enterprise Manager and MS Query included in the professional version? ...

I want to include MSDE 2000 as part of my setup project for a VB.NET app from withing VS.NET 2003. I am having trouble finding out how to do this in terms of changing the settings re instancename and targetname. Is there a simple guide for finding out how to do this for us mere mortals without having to go down the path of using the Windows Installer SDK. I can sucessfully install an instance of MSDE using an instance name that I

Hi I want to package my C# winforms app, to be deployed with MSDE, as easily as possible for the end user. I want to create an MSI or Installshield (prefer MSI), to setup my C# app, together with MSDE (if not already installed), and the MSDE application DB. How can I detect if MSDE is already installed?? Has anyone does this?? How??

Hi All I wasn't aware of the security feature of MSDE, whereby it doesn't allow the TCP/IP(?) network protocol to work and allow a networked PC to connect to an SQL DB running on a MSDE installation on another PC. It only allows the 'host' PC to connect to the SQL DB. I've sussed this in my MSDE installer so that it enables the network feature when it installs, but I have a user who already has MSDE installed and running with the...

Hello, all, I started out thinking my problems were elsewhere but as I have worked through this I have isolated my problem, currently, as a difference between MSDE and SQL Express 2005 (I'll just call it Express for simplicity). I have, to try to simplify things, put the exact same DB on two systems, one running MSDE and one running Express. Both have 2 Ghz processors (one Intel, one AMD), both have a decent amount of RAM (Intel system...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
