Sql Server Backup - Remote -> Local

Hello-
I have a Sql Server 2000 database offsite that I would like to back up
to a local machine. I am using Enterprise Manager on a local machine to
administer the remote db.

Whats the best way to schedule backups so the remote db is backed up to
the local machine?

Can this be done in Enterprise Manager?
Would you recommend any 3rd party software?

Thanks!

Yes, you would have to schedule the job so that it runs against the
remote server. (But you could have the job run through the local
SQL Server Agent, though.)

But there is one requirement: the remote SQL Server must have write
access to the disk where you want the backup to end up. First of all,
this means that the remote server must run under a domain account; it
cannot run under Local System.

Since your server is offsite, it is not obvious that the remote
server has access to your local box. And in any case, if the network
connection is not the best, it may not be a good idea anyway.

In such case you will have to explore other options, such as backing
up to disk local to the remote server, and then get the files with FTP.
The job could still be initiated from your local server, though.
Would you recommend any 3rd party software?

The two most commonly used 3rd party tools are SQL Litespeed from
Imceda and UltraBac. I believe that they are mainly of interest for
large databases from 100 GB where backup times can be considerable.

This is more of a fyi than a question. After restoring a live db backup to our development server there was an identically named login Melb02 on both the db server and in the restored db backup. However if you log in as Melb02 on the server you cannot access any objects owned by Melb02 on the restored db, without putting Melb02.<object_name> in front. This would break our app so we needed a workarround. The mssql docs say that first...

I'm in the process of migrating a lot of data (millions of rows, 4GB+ of data) from an older SQL Server 7.0 database to a new SQL Server 2000 machine. Time is not of the essence; my main concern during the migration is that when I copy in the new data, the new database isn't paralyzed by the amount of bulk copying being one. For this reason, I'm splitting the data into one-month chunks (the data's all timestamped and goes back about 3...

I have a tiny db on a remote sql server. The owner of the sever backs up the db daily, but these backups are not freely available to me. I want my data (only my data) backed up in some form that is accessible to me. I have an adp. It exists only to connect to the remote db. I have an mdb. It has a form. The form opens on the db’s opening. This is the code behind the form. It zaps any tables in the mdb. It examines the tables in the adp....

Hi, I`m in the process of migrating a Access 2002 (Run in 2000 mode) from Windows 98 to Win2K Server. It is a shared resource via a file share on the 98 Server. Client systems are Win98 with the shared drive mounted and the application run via the shared drive. I have tried once before, but came across some file locking issues. I thought i had addressed these file locking issues, but it came apparent I hadn't when data started to get...

Hello All, I apology for posting to many groups but I wasn't sure which group would be best targeted with my question. I have inherited an ASP.Net application that requires some maintenance & bug fixes. I have been asked to also download a copy of the remote SQL Server database that it uses on the background for potential maintenance and changes as well.

I need to move a database from sql server 2008 to sql express 2008. Will backing up the sql server 2008 database to a file and then using that file to restore to sql express 2008 work? I don't have express on my machine so I can't simply try to see if it works. If I do do it, sql server will be on my machine and sql express will be remote.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
