Strange Backup Problem!

Hello Faculties,
Currently i'm working on a local machine that houses SQL Server
databases. All the development work is done on this local machine. The
data is finally imported to a remote server where a demo is given to the
clients.

As a result, the remote database has become full of databases many of
which are not needed at the moment.

I plan to remove all unwanted databases on the remote server only
after taking backups. But there's very little space on the remote server
and as a result i wont be able to use BACKUP commands to create backup
copies.

I also wont be able to import these databases from the remote server
to the local server.

I am planning to copy the .mdf and .ldf files from remote server to
local server. Will that be OK?

Yes. First detach them from the remote server before you copy.

Hello, At work we have various servers, therefore we have various DTS Interfaces which transfer data between them. However when trying to save a new View to one server which gets its data from another server nothing happens, I get an hourglass and nothing else. Then I have to exit out of SQL Enterprise Manager and then no-one can access the database on that server, so we had to restore from backup!

I've a question regarding db2 (V8.1) and database backups going to a storage manager like TSM for example. As I can see in the storage manager if I backup the complete database over the TSM API (no tablespace backups) the backup images is stored as a single backup object. Later I will be able to restore the complete database from this image and I will also be able to restore single tablespaces from this backup image as long as I...

I have a strange situation with my Access 2000 database. I have code in the database which has worked fine for years, and now all of a sudden doesn't work fine on one or two of my client's machines. The code opens MS Word through Automation and then opens a particular Word doc. It's still working fine on most machines; but on one or two of them, the user is getting an Automation Error. The code used is as follows: Dim objWord As...

Hi I have a client running an Access 2000 database on a small network with 3 pc's. Two of the laptop pcs have a data replica, which they use when not connected to the network, the 'server' being the 3rd machine. The other day they reported that 'suddenly' a whole load of data that they had entered (on to the 'server' main data) that day had 'disappeared'. Not only had the new data gone, but updates performed

Hi, I have 3 systems with db2 running on AIX. We take online backup on weekdays and offline on saturday. For the past two weeks the offline backup is getting terminated after exactly 2 hours 13 minutes on two systems. I am getting a timestamp in the backup history file. The third system takes only 30 minutes to backup. The db2diag.log file is attached below. I increased the UTIL_HEAP_SZ parameter. Still no use. Can somebody please tell...

Problem: I have a properties dialog. X objects build the dialog, but a subclass of X, such as Y, can add more options to the dialog for Y specific properties. I would like to write code for the dialog that creates a backup of the current object when the dialog pops up, and sets the current modified object to the backup when the user clicks cancel (or discards the backup if the user clicks OK). X already has a Clone method.

Hi, i've spent all resources, except this one. Hopefully anyone there out could help me with a idea for this problem. We have a db2 8.2 Enterprise Edition, on AIX 5.3 Platform, this is our production database. We had to do a full restore over this database for a problem with a tablespace. The problem cames after 5 days after full restore. The problem is the following, we are having erratic, fluctuating size on our backups, and this is...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
