OK dude,
in general there are a lot of fields within programming
its simply a matter of what you fancy. You have to consider what you like and what is appealing finacially aswell. AND what is in demand at the moment.
web development and mobile app development is big at the moment, quite lucrative and there are a variety of languages that are used in both:
mobile app development
-java
-objective C
web dev
-html
-css
-javascript
-php
-asp
in some ways web dev can be more tricky than app development(mobile or desktop apps) because of the various languages you need to know and use to make a descent and passable website. however desktop and mobile app development requires an extensive knowledge the various API's available for various kinds of apps (JAVA IS HUGE!).
so read up on both and see what you would want to spend countless hours working on.
And as MR. stdq said, practice is important because logic is what determines how creatively you use your code to create masterpieces. You already have Logic, so it cannot be taught to you. you must exercise your mind to improve it to think and work smarter.
With regards to books and videos:
O'Reilly books are GREAT for beginners, and are designed in a way to ease you into programming.
http://www.oreilly.com/
The newboston is a great source for videos for beginners and again also eases you into programming. AND its free!
http://thenewboston.org/
if you feel that you dont like the new boston, you could try lynda for tutorials which comes at a price but trust me, its worth it, exceptional tutorials.
