Planning to start a few websites (starting with one) and need a software development company to do it for me.
Am an IT Project Manager with a technical background. Idea is to be the project manager for my project with the outsourcing firm - but on location (I will move there) - and "hire" their resources - hardware, software and people - to make up my project team. I will be a one-man-client for an outsourcing firm and plan to lead the project to completion by paying for their resources. Eventually should the website make enough money I plan to branch off and move the codebase in-house by having my own software team. If it fails, I drop the whole thing and don't have to worry about making employees redundant, getting rid of hardware etc - back to the nine to five (hopefully that won't happen!)
I am an experienced PM but my knowledge of the technical design involved in such a project is nowhere close to the level that is needed to make this a success. I require a strong solutions architect to come up with the technical roadmap for this work. Someone who has experience in various technical aspects across the whole project. From database structures to the programming language, from hosting to security, to the performance & speed of the end product. To this end, I am arranging Skype conference call with solutions architects of the first few firms I have contacted off Elance.
Question: Any point questions I should be asking to find out how strong the dev team is? If they can get the job done.
Thanks muchly :-)
