What options do I have to build a record keeping solution for a small-business?

First of all I don't know in what category does this question falls! But anyways I hope I'll get some positive response from here.

I have to create a excel like worksheet for some shopkeepers who want to keep records of their customers and account etc. I have created the same using Excel but they are asking for some other alternative as they don't like to use excel.

Can I create a software they are asking for without excel.

Thanks in Advance

That depends on the requirements and the tools that they want to use, right?

If you don't know the tools in question, you have to learn them fast, or say "I quit". The choice is yours.

Do they have any other requirements besides "We don't like Excel"? You really need more information than that to decide how to go about the task. If they don't have any more guidance for you then what they wind up with is your idea of a customer application, not theirs.

Building a basic customer database with a front end done in C#, VB, or Java shouldn't be too difficult, depending on how much information they want to store. You need to know what their goals are.

If its small, simple and local, Microsoft Access could be an easy and relatively fast way to go.
