What software would make team work more reliable?

Hy!
I'm working on a project with 2 friends and we ran in some problems when we had to integrate different parts of the application. What software would improve the integration? We wanted to use Microsoft Team System 2008 but Team Foundation requires windows 2003 and we mainly use XP with SP2 and Vista.
Does anyone have any ideas about this problem?

Cheers,
Ariel

Hi,
You can use Visual SourceSafe to integrate your work.

If you want version control, please do not use SourceSafe, you will regret it. Team system is a little better, but why pay for a proprietary system when a free one is cheaper, more robust, and the industry standard.
