In need of advice regarding building a record log.

Hello All!
As you can see, I'm new to this site. I am currently a freshman in college. I have about 2 and a half years of c++ coding experience. That was a while ago, but I'm getting back into it. Anyway, I have close friends working at a small jewelry store. They currently have no technical help, other than one of those archaic calculators that prints! They keep all of their customers information in folders. The one friend of mine is so fed up with it. He used to work at a different store that did have a computer, and he really misses it. I am really broke this Christmas season, and I just got the idea today... so it hasn't been set in motion yet. I want to offer them a computer program to keep track of everything and be very user friendly, hopefully for some money, or maybe even some decent store credit. I was wondering what challenges I am going to face, and basically what I will have to code in to get this accomplished. I haven't talked to them about it yet, so I don't know specifications yet, but I'm sure they would be very happy with a very simple system that could just keep track of the customers they get from now on, and will allow them to insert customer data from the past. I also want it to show up on the screen when they do a query for a certain customer. I have a little bit of knowledge in databases, but never created one. I specialize in visual c++. If anyone could tell me what skills I will need for this, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to offer them something I won't be able to supply.

oh, and just to keep it simple, assume they will be on a computer with no internet connection... so no need to worry about hackers.

Thanks ahead of time, I look forward to seeing what everyone can offer me for help :)!

You have to go for detailed study of the entire process like the transactions, reports etc, also you need to decide which database to use .

And as you say you have good knowledge of VC++ ,that sould be a simple coding job for you.
