Need to write an application that runs on both linux and windows

Hi there all, I have been contracted to write an application that can run on linux or windows, I have heard that Java is platform indepedent but am wondering whether if i use java and my windows os to write the program, will i be able to later run it on linux? With all the GUI intact?

Yes. If you run the same version of the JVM on both systems, your code should run on both.

There are complications when running different versions of the JVM, but this usually occurs after parts of Java get depricated and phased out of the language.
