Software Design - SOR - Help Needed

I have to develop a piece of software for the company that I work. It's a very specialised piece of software and will be quite a complicated database. It will be a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database with web access and lots of other features. Multi user access, and the users will be in different locations around world

As the main user of the software, I have been tasked with its design. I have started to write everything down, but as it's not a simple piece of software it's becoming quite a large document, and I'm finding it difficult to bring it all together.

What I have to do is create an SOR document that will go to developers for cost and time estimates.

Can anyone recommend a good template for creating SOR's. Or direct me to a website or book that will help me write this. I have to detail everything that the software will do, and I'm finding it difficult to think it all through.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Best regards

An excellent book that I highly recommend for you is Database Design for Mere Mortals, Second Edition by Michael Hernandez. I think I've seen it on Amazon.com for around 35$ US.

He has a very valuable, simple language approach to the design process, as well as a CD with forms, etc. for the design blueprint process.

Regards, and good luck!
