Long tail keywords are used because as long as the keyword is lesser competition it faces, so it will be easy to improve the ranking of that keyword in SERPs. When you start ranking on that long tail URL then you can target the short one also.

Example.

(App development Company) have very high competition as compared to (App development company in USA)

Long tail keywords in your particular niche is that they typically have a much lower level of competition, so it is easier to rank in the top of search engine result page. Another advantage is that long tail keywords bring in much more targeted traffic. For my online business DPFOC suggested to use long tail keywords and I have had good results with it.

Focusing on long-tail keywords is a great SEO tactic. I’ve brought up long-tail keywords a lot throughout my website. After using those keywords my organic traffic increased drastically. So I am suggesting everybody use long-tail keywords for good results.

If you are trying to get ahead in Google listings, then the effect will probably be short-lived. Google has been reported to have vast amounts of humans parsing results and checking why a particular web page is high in rank. If they find that you are trying to "work the system", or in some way scam them, and if they in conjunction do not personally think that your web site is as valid as the ones further down the list, then they might black list your site and move it down 100+ in the list. Be careful to make your content exactly (not one-size-fits-all) what you are offering. Put the money that you had budgeted for SEO help into something else. Be exact in your web page's offering; be careful to avoid "get-rich-schemes" and "Get-ahead-in-Google-listing-schemes." They really do have enough money to have a full time army of human parsers looking at page after page deciding one at a time.

Basically we can categorizes keywords as - Short Tail Keywords and Long Tail Keywords.

Short Tail keywords usually have high search volume and high difficulty for ranking.
Long Tail Keywords will have low search volume and less difficulty to rank. But the on these type of keywords you will find more relevant audience with purchase behavior.so ranking on this keywords will help in your conversions but you also need to target short tail keywords for good amount of traffic.

Focusing on long-tail keywords is a great SEO tactic. Long-tail keywords are keywords that are usually longer than regularly searched keywords. Though long-tail keywords will get you less search traffic, but will usually have a higher conversion value, as they are more specific

The use of long-tail keywords is very beneficial to raise the ranking of a website. You can use the long tail keywords, where short tail keywords are highly competitive.

None.

There is NO benefit to long-tail keywords.

There is a NEGATIVE result possible with long-tail keywords, IF you use them in conjunction with most other SEO tactics. Just tell the truth on your web page. If Google decides that you are trying to spam them, then YOUR OWN long-tail keywords might be black-listed by them and YOUR use of them might get your own web pages pre-judged as spam. Prejudice is based upon someone's perceived logic, so do not be perceived negatively or you might be the author of other people's prejudice against you.

Tell the truth and try to keep to a single topic on your web page.
