How does Social Media help search engine ranking of website?

I'd like some thoughts on why social media is important for businesses like ourselves when it comes to helping us rank in the search engines?

With social media you can reach million of people and can share your thoughts. You can promote your website among them.

SMO do not provide any back link. SMO only generates traffic for your website. As branding of your website increases people start visiting your website more frequently then there can be some tendency for the Google to improve your rankings but not sure.

You can use various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon etc

Actually social media links are easily get noticed by search engine crawlers and it will help in crawling your webpages faster and also social media links play key role in the ranking factors. The more your content is shareable the more people will like and it will be a good signal for search engines that the quality of content is good.
In my opinion you should target all the social media channel related to your business niche.

Social Media plays a big role in SEO as nowadays majority of people use and spend lot of time on social sites .Posting and sharing content ,other offers on it can be very beneficial as it can spread quickly and on a large scale.
