How are computers getting infected by Viruses?

How virus spyware and other malware are infecting a computer? Some said don’t click any unknown link or browse any unknown sites. Some said not to connect others pen drive with computer. I am just confused.

All of the mentioned are correct, I all depends on the type of virus. the only defense you have is to make sure you have a good anti malware software,Firewall, and to en sure your OS is up to date with the latest update, Even in Linux, and the third thing you can do is to use a program like deep freeze to seel your windows,(Just need sum configuration to get it working,
