pdf attachment in mail - Virus?

Hi everyone,

I got an email I am 90% sure is spam or virus. However the attachment is a pdf. Can a pdf contain a virus? My antivirus didn't pick up anything.

I don't want to open it only to find it infects my system.

Heya, Mary.

Aside from satisfying your curiosity, what would be the positive benefit of opening that PDF file?

PS. Is there no body, and the subject line matches the name of the PDF? Yup; it's spam.

Kinda figured it was. But I do get a lot of work related email and there was just that niggling fear it might be legitimate. But I think you're right. There is no body so it makes sense.

I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden, I'm getting buckets of spam in my work email account. Which is odd for me because I [just about] NEVER get spam....

Don't go with BlueHost. That's my only advice.

I don't get that much and outlooks spam checker picks up on most of what I do get.

I'm pretty sure virii can be packaged to look like pdfs - I know that they can contain XSS and I know viruses can be packaged in to html books, so while it's probably just an advertisement, I wouldn't trust it if the message is spam.

I've deleted it. I've had another two similar ones since so I'm pretty confident it was spam at least.
