Convert from one base to another?

Hi, I am totally new to python and I am having real hard time with understanding it.

Could anyone please help me how do I convert from one base to another in python? For e.g. The program will ask user to input a number and enter what base it is in and then ask what base does it have to be converted and find the results accordingly.
Any help is truly appreciated.
