Even with an ulcer...I still must solve

Greetings! I am Mike, known to most as 'Cur-ray'.

I am trying to develop a way of parsing data out of a company .cfm page and export that to xls, so that I don't have to spend my time doing something I think a script might do, and most likely better than myself.

What I am having difficulty with is that the login page is an https:// page.
It looks something like this

https://vss.pearsonvue.com/
(That is the login for sites that work with me, my login has no site number)

I know that https involves SSL, and I also know that I will need some interface for cookie storage and retrieval.

After logging in there are forms that need to be changed to reflect the type query I am trying to make, and also numeric data to specify the actual entity I am trying to lookup. I can parse these forms and extract the data, that isn't too hard, and putting that data into an xls sheet shouldn't be anything too magnificent, but the initial login and communication is very difficult for me to visualize how python and the website are communicating.

Ultimately I'd like for it to be able to take id numbers out of an xls and send them to the website process the data and spit it back into the xls.

I would be grateful for any help, from the code gods that reside on high around these parts.
