qsub on remote server

I am trying to start a qsub process on a remote server. This is not via http. This a case where the process is fired from one server that does not run qsubs and needs to go off to a server that runs qsubs. Both servers are on the same network.

Here is the problem: initially the process starts and creates logs on the resdent server but then hands it off to a high speed server. The high speed server needs access to the logs but due to configuration issues, the high speed server cannot see the initial server but the initial server can see the high speed server via ssh.

I have tried to conned to the high speed server via python using os.system commands and I do connect: not a problem. But it does not know why or what I am trying to do thereafter. The terminal windows shows my new bash shell window but in the background, the execution continues to hang. It replaces the initial terminal window so the only way is to exit the bash shell at which time the process continues but fails.
