What is Emacs?

Hi,

When I am going thru the material for Python in Google.Most of the users talks about "Emacs".Correct me if I am wrong in understanding about Emacs

Emacs is also one of the IDE for Python.

Emacs is the most popular editor on *nix. It has all kinds of "modes" for editing (and colorizing) various file types (like .py). It also has a shell environment (not to be confused with a python shell like IDLE & others give you). Some people I know use it, but since it predates graphical user interfaces, most of the key bindings are archaic. That's why I would never use emacs. IDLE has the option of using emacs keybindings if you want to try it and see how it works.
