tix checklist

hi folks,
Can anyone provide a simple example on how to use a Tix checklist,
actually i'm not able to make some entries' state disabled.
Description :
When someone clicks on the parent folder and make its status "off",
then its child entries shld be disabled automatically, ie they shld be
visible but the usr shld not be able to select those.
Plz help me out.
