scipy.weave.inline standalone

Does anyone happen to have up-to-date summary instructions for
installing weave.inline ?

I don't want weave.blitz, I don't want Numeric, and I don't want
Scipy. According to the documentation, this is perfectly possible, but
the documentation is clearly out of date, and after working around 3
documentation bugs and still not managing to install it, I'm rapidly
running out of enthusiasm ... so if anyone has done this recently, I'd
appreciate a hint.
