Pyrex 0.9.1.1 compile problem

Kernel 2.6.5
Slackware 9.1
Python -V: 2.3.1

running python setup.py install yields the following error:

peter@peter:/mnt/src/rox/Pyrex-0.9.1.1$ python setup.py install
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "setup.py", line 8, in ?
if sys.platform in ("unix", "darwin"):
NameError: name 'sys' is not defined
peter@peter:/mnt/src/rox/Pyrex-0.9.1.1$

What am I missing?

Same error on my linux intallation.
