announce: OraPIG (python wrappers for Oracle)

I'm pleased to announce the initial release of OraPIG,
the Oracle Python Interface Generator.

OraPIG generates Python wrapper classes for Oracle packages.

If you use Oracle and Python, this might be a pretty useful
package for you. Download it and let us know what
you think!

Download and docs: http://code.google.com/p/orapig

Quick Example: Suppose you have a package called tiny
with a single procedure p:

create or replace package tiny
procedure p(x in number);
end tiny;

OraPIG will generate a wrapper class that will allow you to
use the package without having to use the various database
calls. Instead, the wrapper class will be instantiated and
called just like any other Python class:

class Tiny:
def __init__(self,c urs): # instantiate class with a cursor
def p(self,x): # call procedure p(x)

Here's how it's used:

import cx_Oracle
import tiny
conn = cx_Oracle.conne ct('scott/tiger')
curs = conn.cursor()

mytiny = tiny.Tiny(curs)
mytiny.p(2) # call a procedure
curs.commit() # not done automatically

I've got a C library with about 50 calls in it that I want to wrap in Python. I know I could use some tool like SWIG, but that will give me a too-literal translation; I want to make some modifications along the way to make the interface more Pythonic. For example, all of these functions return an error code (typically just errno passed along, but not always). They all accept as one of their arguments a pointer to someplace to store...

The following url points to an article written by Damian Conway entitled "Ten Essential Development Practices": http://www.perl.com/pub/a/2005/07/14/bestpractices.html Althought the article has Perl as a focus, I thought that some of the general points made might be of interest to the Python community. It would certainly be interesting to put together an analogous version of this article that centers on Python. Best Regards,

Hi, I'm fairly new to Python so please pardon any dumbness on my part. I plan to write an app in Python that will run on Linux and would need to connect to Oracle and MySQL. I could use MySQLdb for MySQL and cx_oracle for Oracle, but 2 different APIs in the same app is kind of painful. So I have unixODBC that gives me ODBC on Linux. The best ODBC access

EyeDB is a free ODBMS based on the ODMG 3 specification with programming interfaces for C++ and Java. It is very powerfull, mature, safe and stable. In fact, it was developed in 1992 for the Genome View project althought rewritten in 1994, and has been used in a lot of bioinformatics projects http://www.eyedb.org/ Python does not have any programming interface to ODBMS and I believe that it would be very interesting that the Python...

Hi pythonians, I'm one of the maintainers of an open source image processing toolkit (OpenCV) and responsible for parts of the autotools setup. From the introduction to PyObjC, the Python-Objective-C bridge on Mac OS X: "As described in Objective-C for PyObjC users the creation of Objective-C objects is a two-stage process. To initialize objects, first call a class method to allocate the memory (typically alloc), and then call an initializer (typically starts with init). Some classes have class methods which perform this behind the scenes, especially classes that create cached,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
