Python libraries for iCalendar, which one to use?

I am about to try writing a little Python utility to extract some data
from an iCalendar file. A quick Google search turns up two possible
libraries to use - vobject and "iCalendar package for Python".

First question - have I missed any other (better?) ones?

Second question - how do I choose which to use. Do I just use the
obvious criteria like recent activity, has the methods I want etc. or
is there some place that assigns official/respectability to a library?

Several people asked me for the following HOWTO, so I decided to post it here (though it is still very 'alpha' and might contain many (?) mistakes; didn't test what I wrote, but wrote it - more or less - during my own installation of Python 2.3 on Fedora Core 1 Linux for a friend of mine). Anyway, HTH, L.

iCalendar is a standard (RFC 2445) for calendar data exchange. I plan to transfer data from iCalendar files (extension .ics), to a linked Outlook calendar table. While Outlook (2002) has an import strand for this, it does not seem to work with the format I shall be importing. iCalendar files are not comma delimited files. My first...

Does anyone know of any (preferably largish) examples of literate programs written using Python? Alternatively, does anyone know of any literate programming tools which support Python well? (I am aware of Leo and I've been to literateprogramming.com, but any additional pointers would be much appreciated!) Thanks, Paul

I am trying to write a light iCalendar server. I have no problem serving iCalendar data, which is just printing the right format with the right headers. The data comes from a database. However, I have no idea how I can receive and process an iCalendar request, as regards adding a new event. Eventually I want to parse the request and add...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
