Problem with ez_setup on a "non-networked" machine

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to install setuptools on a work PC behind an NTLM firewall.
I've tried to use APS as recommended but am still unable to have
anything other than IE talk through firewall. But as I can downloaded
eggs manually, I'm not overly concerned at this point.

So I've tried following the instructions for un-networked installs:
I've downloaded ez_setup.py and setuptools-0.6c3-py2.4.egg, putting the
egg file in the same folder as ez_setup.

No matter what comline args I try, though, it always seems to try to
grab the egg from the Cheeseshop. I naively started off with:

D:\downloads>ez _setup setuptools
Downloading
http://cheeseshop.python.org/package....6c3-py2.4.egg
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "D:\downloads\e z_setup.py", line 217, in ?
main(sys.argv[1:])
File "D:\downloads\e z_setup.py", line 149, in main
egg = download_setupt ools(version, delay=0)
File "D:\downloads\e z_setup.py", line 131, in download_setupt ools
src = urllib2.urlopen (url)
File "C:\Python24\li b\urllib2.py", line 130, in urlopen
return _opener.open(ur l, data)
File "C:\Python24\li b\urllib2.py", line 358, in open
response = self._open(req, data)
File "C:\Python24\li b\urllib2.py", line 376, in _open
'_open', req)
File "C:\Python24\li b\urllib2.py", line 337, in _call_chain
result = func(*args)
File "C:\Python24\li b\urllib2.py", line 1021, in http_open
return self.do_open(ht tplib.HTTPConne ction, req)
File "C:\Python24\li b\urllib2.py", line 996, in do_open
raise URLError(err)
urllib2.URLErro r: <urlopen error (10061, 'Connection refused')>

So reading through the EasyInstall instructions, I find that I need to
stop it from downloading and point it at the local copy instead:

D:\downloads>ez _setup --allow-hosts=None --find-links="D:\downl oads"
setuptools
Downloading
http://cheeseshop.python.org/package....6c3-py2.4.egg
Traceback (most recent call last):
[snip]
urllib2.URLErro r: <urlopen error (10061, 'Connection refused')>

This I don't understand, as the docs explicitly state,
"--allow-hosts=None prevents downloading altogether", which certainly
isn't the case here. Even using the exact param layout for the example
in the docs doesn't work:

D:\downloads>ez _setup -H None -f D:\downloads setuptools
Downloading
http://cheeseshop.python.org/package...s/setuptools-0.
6c3-py2.4.egg
Traceback (most recent call last):
[etc]

The difference is that I'm using ez_setup instead of easy_install, but
then that's what I'm wanting to end up with out of this exercise. The
docs do state that ez_setup uses the exact same comline args as
easy_install... is this definitely the case?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I'm missing
something blatantly obvious...

Danke.

ez_setup.py implies a certain setuptools version available. As you don't
have that available, it will fallback to installing one, which explains
the "still downloading"-thing.

The solution will most probably be to put the setuptools-egg on you
python-path. I'm not sure if that is all to do, but to me it looks as if
it might work after looking into ez_setup.py. If not, you should dig in
there yourself.

For some reason when I call validateFields before .Update (see below), I get this error: "Consumer's even handler called a non-reentrant method in the provider" However if I comment out the call to validateFields, all is fine. What could possibly cause this error? What is a non-reentrant method?

Hi, There are great Python Web Application Framework. But most of them are meant for content oriented web apps. Is there something that can ease the development of application that are not content oriented(I call them "NON CONTENT-ORIENTED WEB APPLICATIONS" because I don't know what else to call them). I mean the applications like, accounting, high volume data entry apps, where normally GUI clients have ruled. I know very high...

From reading this forum, it is my understanding that C++ doesn't require the compiler to keep code that does not manifest itself in any way to the user. For example, in the following: { for(int i = 0; i < 10; ++i){ std::cout << i << std::endl; for(int j = 0; j < 0x7fffffff; ++j){} } }

Is it at all possible to leverage mixed-mode assemblies from AppDomains other than the default AppDomain? Is there any means at all of doing this? Mixed-mode is incredibly convenient, but if I cannot load/unload/reload extensions into my large and slow-to-load application during development without restarting the process then the disadvantages may outweigh the advantages. I've got a mixed-mode program in which I create a new AppDomain...

I'm having problems running a release build of an application. The application is a native C++ .NET 2003 MFC application which links to a number of other DLLs, one of which is mixed (SLGSE.dll) (VB.NET/C++). When I try and run the app, it gets "An unhandled non- continuable exception was thrown during process...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
