Jython Problem

1 New Member

I'm trying to execute a Python script from a Java class using Jython. I'm running into the following error:

Exception in thread "main" Traceback (innermost last):
File "<string>", line 1, in ?
File "C:\PorkyPortal \diagram-generator\.\til emaker.py", line 13, in ?
ImportError: no module named PIL

I've tried to solve the problem with these instructions:

Here is the code I'm using:

PythonInterpret er interp = new PythonInterpret er();

Properties props = new Properties();
props.setProper ty("python.path ", "C:\\Python24\\ Lib; C:\\Python24\\L ib\\site-packages\\PIL; C:\\Python24\\S cripts\\");
PythonInterpret er.initialize(S ystem.getProper ties(), props, new String[] {""});

interp.exec("im port tilemaker");
interp.exec("im port Image");
interp.exec("im port glob");
interp.exec("im g = tilemaker.prepa re(AlternateExa mple.png, FFFFFF, chatty = False);");
interp.exec("im g2 = tilemaker.subdi vide(img, level = 0, quadrant=(0, 0), size=(128, 128),filename=o utputName + '-%d-%d-%d.jpg', quality = None, chatty = False)");

Any suggestions?

I think it's a bad idea to use Java -> Jython -> CPython.
Use Java native image manipulation libraries, or pure Python (aka CPython) + PIL.

Can Jython be used to write applications to run in J2ME environments? I ask because Python seems an ideal language for teaching students to write applications for the phone or other mobile devices. If this is possible, I would be grateful for any pointers to a Jython/J2ME reference. -clay

Hello I found that jython catches exact java exceptions, not their subclasses. Is there some way to get around this limitation (or error) ? My program has class representing database source and specialed classes for particulars databases. Now there are two options - to include exception (subclasses of SQLException) for every db in except (so all drivers has to be present) or to move methods to subclasses.

Hi, I have read that this had been asked before but there's no satisfactory replies then. I have a module (pA) written in python, which originally is called by another python module (pB), and passes a python object (pO) to pB. Now I require pA to be called in a java class (jC) and pass pO into jC. As pA uses non-python modules, I am not able to use Jython on this.

Hi there, unfortunately I am new to Jython and my "Jython Essentials" book is still in the mail. I looked into the Jython API Doc but could not find the information. I am porting a Python library to Jython and some parts are missing. My question basically is where do I find information on what to use instead. E.g. I could not find information on the os module. I do not find the sys module docu either. The concrete problem is I have...

Ok, so I know this is probably a common jython error, but somehow I can't seem to find an answer to this trivial problem. Ok, I have the following (simple) directory structure: $TOP/ __init__.py py_dir/ __init__.py util.py

Hi all, I am a novice Python/Jython programmer, and Ubuntu user. Ubuntu still only supports only version 2.1 of Jython. I have used the GUI installer of Jython 2.2, and installed it to the default /root/jython2.2 directory. The install went without issues. However, typing ............jython --version in a teminal still gives me ........ Jython 2.1 on java (JIT: null)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
